Terms of Service — BurnBudget

BurnBudget is operated by Develop Labs, a sole proprietorship registered in Singapore, 22 Sin Ming Lane, #06-76 Midview City, Singapore 573969. In these terms, we and us mean Develop Labs, and you mean the person using the app. Contact: freeze@burnbudget.com.

Last updated: 7 September 2026. By downloading or using BurnBudget you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

The short version

• BurnBudget is not a medical device and gives no medical advice. It is an accounting model for your own time and energy, and an aid to your judgement rather than a replacement for it.
• Apple handles the money. Subscriptions, renewals and refunds are Apple's, not ours. A free trial becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel first.
• Your ledger is on your phone and we hold no copy of it. That means we cannot restore it for you. Exporting it is worth doing.
• What we read from Apple Health stays on your phone. We never receive it.
• Naming a stakes partner means vouching for that address. You are telling us you have asked that person and may share it.

1. What BurnBudget is, and what it is not

BurnBudget gives you a daily capacity balance and charges the work you log against it. When you overspend, it carries the shortfall into the next day and shows you what tomorrow opens with.

BurnBudget is not a medical device, and nothing in it is medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent burnout, exhaustion, or any other condition. The figures it shows are an accounting model built from what you log and from what you allow it to read about your sleep, your heart rate and your steps. They are an aid to your own judgement, not a substitute for it, and not a substitute for advice from a doctor or other qualified professional.

Do not use BurnBudget to make a decision about your health. If you are unwell, or you are worried about your health, speak to a professional. Do not wait for a number in an app to tell you.

2. Your licence to use the app

Your licence to use the BurnBudget app is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which you can read at apple.com. These terms sit alongside it and cover the service around the app.

If anything here conflicts with Apple's agreement on a question of the app licence itself, Apple's agreement applies.

The licence is personal to you and non-transferable. You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app, and you may not copy, modify, translate, reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent the law gives you a right to do so that a contract cannot remove.

3. Apple's role

You and we both acknowledge:

• These terms are between you and Develop Labs only. Apple is not a party to them.
• Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for BurnBudget. Support is ours, at freeze@burnbudget.com.
• If the app fails to conform to any warranty that cannot be disclaimed, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Beyond that refund, Apple has no warranty obligation of any kind, and any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense attributable to a failure to conform is ours to answer, not Apple's.
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party make about the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar law.
• If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and on your acceptance Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you.

You also confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated by the US Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

4. Who may use it

You must be at least 16. BurnBudget is not intended for anyone younger, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe someone under 16 has given us data, email freeze@burnbudget.com and we will delete it.

You must give us accurate information. That matters most for a stakes partner's name and email address, because we send mail to it. See section 9.

5. Subscriptions, billing, trials and refunds

Subscriptions are sold and handled by Apple, not by us. We never see your payment details.

• The price and the billing period are shown in the App Store before you buy, and payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the new period starts.
• A free trial becomes a paid subscription automatically. If BurnBudget offers you a free period, it converts to a paid subscription at the price shown, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before that free period ends. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing. If you buy a subscription while a free period is still running, you forfeit the unused part of it, which is Apple's rule and not ours.
• Cancel through Apple: on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Apple's own instructions are at support.apple.com.
• Refunds are Apple's to give, not ours. Ask Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue, promise or reverse a charge. Where your local consumer law gives you a right of withdrawal or a right to a refund, that right stands and nothing here removes it.
• Managing or cancelling a subscription is done in your Apple Account settings after purchase. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

We may change what a subscription costs. Apple will tell you before a new price applies to you, and will ask you to agree to it.

6. Your data, and your backups

Your ledger stays on your phone. Every task, every settled day and every figure BurnBudget computes is written to a database on the device and nowhere else. We keep no copy of it, we cannot read it, and we cannot restore it. If you delete the app, that history goes with it, so export it first if you want to keep it. Export is always available, including after a subscription ends.

Where you have your own device backup switched on, a copy may exist in that backup under Apple's terms rather than ours.

There are two exceptions, and neither is your ledger.

The first is not your data at all. If you name a stakes partner, we hold a record on our servers so that we can contact them: their name and email address, your name, whether they confirmed or declined, when your app last recorded activity, how many quiet days you chose before they are told, and a random identifier for your installation. The Privacy Policy sets out that record in full, how long we keep it, and how either of you can have it deleted.

The second is your subscription. Apple tells us whether yours is active, and once subscriptions are live RevenueCat will tell us the same, against a random identifier rather than your name or your email. We never receive your payment details; Apple handles that, and we never see a card number.

Beyond those two, we hold nothing about you on a server. BurnBudget carries no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no crash reporter. If you switch on the app's own usage record, it is written to the database on your phone with everything else, and it is never uploaded.

7. Apple Health

If you allow it, BurnBudget reads your sleep, your resting heart rate and your step count from Apple Health, to calibrate the balance you open the day with.

• It is read only. BurnBudget never writes anything to Apple Health.
• What it reads stays on your device. We never receive it, it is never uploaded to us, and it is never sent to a stakes partner or to anyone else.
• We never use it for advertising or marketing, and we never sell it or share it with a data broker. We do not use it for any purpose other than computing the figures the app shows you.
• Permission is yours to give and yours to take back, at any time, in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Health. BurnBudget keeps working without it; it simply has less to work from.
• Giving no health permission never counts against you. Where there is no data, BurnBudget makes no adjustment.

8. Notifications

BurnBudget can send you notifications: a forecast in the morning and a reminder at the hour you chose to settle the day. They are scheduled on your device, they contain only your own figures, and nothing about them is sent to us. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings, and the app keeps working without them.

9. Naming a stakes partner

BurnBudget can tell one person if you go quiet or run days in debt. That person is not our customer and has agreed to nothing with us, so the whole arrangement rests on you having asked them first.

When you name someone, we send them one email. It explains who named them, what they would receive, and asks them to say yes or no. You confirm, when you name them, that the address is theirs and that you have asked their permission. If that is not true, you are sending a stranger an email they did not agree to, and sections 10 and 14 cover what follows.

Nothing beyond that invitation is sent unless they say yes.

• If they decline, they hear from us once and never again, and we keep their address on a suppression list so that nobody can invite it again, unless they ask us to erase that address as well, after which a later invitation would not be blocked automatically.
• If they do not answer, at most one reminder follows, and only if you ask for it and only after three days. If they still do not answer we delete their details after thirty days.
• If they confirm, they receive only what the invitation described: a short message when you have been quiet for the number of days you chose, or when you run consecutive days in debt. They can unsubscribe from any email we send them, and doing so ends the arrangement.
• If you remove them, we tell them once that the arrangement has ended and then delete the record. That note goes only to someone who had agreed; a partner who declined hears nothing further, then or ever.

We never send them your ledger, your figures, or anything you logged.

We may refuse to send to an address, or stop sending to it, at any time and without giving a reason. BurnBudget is not a mailing tool, and one partner at a time is the whole of it.

10. Acceptable use

Do not:

• use BurnBudget for anything unlawful;
• attempt to break, probe, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service that handles stakes partner invitations, or to any account or data that is not yours;
• use the stakes partner feature to send unwanted or repeated mail to anyone, or to name an address whose owner has not agreed;
• attempt to extract another person's details from the service, whether by scraping, by automated enquiry, or by guessing;
• use the app or the service to build a competing product, or resell any part of it;
• misrepresent who you are, or who a partner is.

If a stakes partner record is used this way, we may delete it and stop sending anything further in connection with it. We may also stop providing the invitation service to your installation. There is no account for us to close, because there is no account, and your ledger on your phone is unaffected.

11. Our intellectual property, and your feedback

BurnBudget, the name BurnBudget, the Develop Labs name, and the app's software, design, text, graphics and gauge are ours, or our licensors', and are protected by copyright and other law. These terms give you a licence to use the app, and nothing else. No right in our name or branding passes to you.

Your data is yours. Nothing here gives us any ownership of what you log, of your figures, or of what you export.

Feedback is different. If you send us a suggestion, a bug report or an idea, you allow us to use it, freely and without obligation or payment, to improve BurnBudget. We are not taking your data; we are making sure that acting on a good idea does not become a dispute.

12. Availability and changes to the app

The app runs on your device and keeps working whether or not we do. The stakes partner invitations depend on a service we run and on the processors listed in the Privacy Policy.

We do not guarantee that service is available at any particular time, and we may change or withdraw it. We are not liable for a failure or delay caused by something outside our reasonable control, including a failure of a network, of a hosting or email provider, or of the App Store.

We may also change the app. Features can be added, altered or removed.

13. Disclaimers and liability

The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error free, accurate, or fit for any particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for:

• decisions you make on the basis of what the app shows you;
• work you take on, or turn down, or how it turns out;
• any health outcome, including exhaustion, illness or injury;
• data you lose where you hold no export;
• an email a stakes partner did or did not receive, or acted or did not act on;
• indirect or consequential loss, or lost profit, revenue or opportunity.

Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for BurnBudget in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you live somewhere whose consumer law gives you rights that a contract cannot set aside, you keep those rights and nothing here removes them.

14. If your use of BurnBudget causes a claim against us

If someone brings a claim against Develop Labs because of how you used BurnBudget, and in particular because you named a stakes partner who had not agreed to it or otherwise broke section 10, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages we face as a result, provided we tell you promptly, let you take part in the defence, and do not settle without asking you.

This does not apply to anything caused by us: our own breach, our own negligence, or anything we did wrong. Nothing in this section removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be removed by agreement.

15. Ending it

You can stop at any time. Cancel the subscription through Apple, and delete the app. Deleting the app deletes what is stored on your device.

We may stop providing the service to you if you break these terms. If that happens and you have paid for a period you can no longer use, ask Apple for a refund.

What survives. Sections 6, 11, 13, 14, 17 and 18 continue to apply after these terms end, along with anything else that by its nature is meant to.

16. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The current version always lives at this address with the date it was last updated at the top, and we keep the previous version available on request.

If a change materially reduces your rights or materially changes what you pay, we will say so on this page before it takes effect, and where we hold an address that reaches you we will use it. Continuing to use BurnBudget after a change takes effect means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, cancel through Apple and delete the app.

17. Law and disputes

Talk to us first. Most problems are a misunderstanding or a bug. Email freeze@burnbudget.com with what happened and we will try to settle it within 30 days. This is not a condition of your legal rights, and it does not stop you going straight to a court or a regulator.

These terms are governed by the law of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction, subject to any right you have under local consumer law to rely on the law of, or bring proceedings where, you live.

18. General

• Severability. If any part of these terms is held to be unenforceable, that part is cut back only as far as needed, or removed, and the rest stands.
• No waiver. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
• Entire agreement. These terms, together with Apple's licence agreement and our Privacy Policy, are the whole of what is agreed between us about BurnBudget, and they replace anything said earlier.
• Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours if the business is sold or reorganised, and your rights are unaffected.
• No third-party rights, except Apple's under section 3.
• Language. These terms are written in English, and the English version governs.
