Privacy Policy — BurnBudget
BurnBudget is operated by Develop Labs, a sole proprietorship registered in Singapore, 22 Sin Ming Lane, #06-76 Midview City, Singapore 573969. Contact: freeze@burnbudget.com. Data Protection Officer: Joyce Leong, freeze@burnbudget.com.
The short version
BurnBudget keeps your data on your phone. Your tasks, your capacity figures, your ledger and your sleep readings are stored in a database on your device and are not uploaded.
Two things are exceptions, and each is described below: your stakes partner's contact details, and your subscription, which Apple handles.
You can export everything BurnBudget holds about you at any time, free, from Settings — whether or not you subscribe.
1. What stays on your device
Everything you log. Tasks, durations, costs, recoveries, your daily balances, your calibration settings, and the sleep duration BurnBudget reads from Apple Health.
We cannot see any of it. It is not backed up to us and it is not synced. If you delete the app, it is gone.
2. Apple Health
With your permission, BurnBudget reads how long you slept last night to work out how much capacity your day opens with.
- It is read only. Nothing is written back to Apple Health.
- It is never used for advertising or marketing.
- It is not stored in iCloud and not shared with anyone.
- It never leaves your device at all.
You can withdraw this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
3. Your stakes partner — the one place we hold someone else's details
If you choose to name a stakes partner, we store, on our servers:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Their name and email address | To contact them |
| Your name | So they know who named them |
| Whether they confirmed, declined, or have not answered | Nothing is sent unless they confirmed |
| When you last logged something | To know whether you have gone quiet |
| When we last emailed them | So they are not contacted repeatedly |
| Whether they agreed | Only somebody who agreed is told if you later end it |
| Whether you have sent them a reminder | At most two emails ever reach an address: the invitation and one reminder |
| How many days of quiet you chose | You set this yourself; it decides when we would write to them |
| A random identifier | To link the above without knowing who you are |
We never store, and never send them, your capacity figures, your task names, your sleep data, or anything from your ledger.
If you are the partner reading this
Someone named you as their stakes partner and gave us your email address. We are required to tell you that, and this is that notice.
- You will not receive anything unless you click Confirm in the invitation.
- At most two emails will ever reach you if you do not answer: the invitation, and one reminder, which is sent only if the person who named you asks for it and only after three days. There is never a third.
- If you agreed and they later end the arrangement, we tell you once and then delete the name and email address we held. That note is the last thing we ever send you. If you declined, we send it to you no more than we send you anything else: nothing.
- You can decline in one click from the same email, and we will never contact you again.
- You can unsubscribe in one click from any email at any time.
- If you do not respond, we delete your details after 30 days.
- If you decline or unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a suppression list and nothing else. We keep it for one reason only: so that we can recognise your address and refuse to send to it if anyone ever names you again. It is never used to contact you, and it is not used for anything else. You can ask us to erase it too — but if you do, we will no longer be able to recognise the address, and a future invitation from someone else would not be blocked automatically.
- Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, email freeze@burnbudget.com. You do not need the app and you do not need an account.
4. Anonymous usage data — recorded on your phone, and not sent
BurnBudget records a few numbers about each day on your own device: the forecast, your correction to it, hours slept, units spent, recoveries logged, and whether the day ended in debt.
None of it is sent anywhere. It stays in the same local database as everything else, and it is included when you export your data. There is a Settings toggle governing whether these rows are recorded at all, and it is off by default.
If that ever changes — if a future version sends them — we will ask you first, plainly, and this section will say so before it happens. Because the figures include hours slept, they are health-related, which is why sending them would need your explicit consent rather than your assumed agreement.
5. Your subscription
Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
When subscriptions go live we will also use RevenueCat to tell us whether yours is active. They receive a random identifier and your subscription status, never your name or your email.
6. Who processes data for us
| Processor | What they handle | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | The stakes partner record. Nothing else. | European Union |
| Resend | Sending the stakes partner's emails | eu-west-1 (Ireland) |
| Apple | Subscriptions | Apple's own infrastructure |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status, once subscriptions are live | United States |
Each is bound by a data processing agreement.
7. How long we keep things
- Partner details: until you remove them, or 30 days if never answered.
- Declined or unsubscribed addresses: the email address alone is kept indefinitely on a suppression list, so that we can refuse to contact that person again. Everything else about them is deleted. This is the minimum needed to honour their refusal, and keeping it is what makes "we will never contact you again" true rather than merely intended.
- The daily figures in §4: on your phone, until you delete them or the app. We hold no copy.
- Everything on your device: until you delete it or the app.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete anything we hold, and to stop processing it. Email freeze@burnbudget.com. This applies to stakes partners as well as to customers.
You can also complain to a supervisory authority — in Singapore the PDPC, in the EU or UK your national data protection authority.
9. Children
BurnBudget is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
10. Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
